GeoUtrecht 2020

The VOG Group is active at GeoUtrecht 2020 - run virtually this year in line with current restrictions on physical conferences. A special pre-conference Virtual Field Trip day replaced conventional pre-conference excursions, with presenters showcasing their experiences, software and courses used for providing a virtual field experience during these difficult times.

Of course, the VOG Group has been developing the application of virtual outcrops beyond acquisition for many years, allowing us to present two of our own case studies. John Howell presented shallow marine and coastal plain deposits in the Book Cliffs, Utah, USA, while Simon presented work from the large and interdisciplinary TriasNorth project (with Universities of Oslo and Bergen).

In addition, two talks will be given at the conference (Monday 24th August):

  • Plenary (John Howell): Collecting and sharing digital outcrop data for virtual fieldtrip delivery in times of global lockdown
  • Presentation (Simon Buckley): V3Geo: A platform for sharing virtual 3D geoscience models
